Jarod Goldstein always dreamed of building his dream home and this year, he set out to do just that. Amidst all the details he set out to include in the construction of his new house, Goldstein wanted to harmonize it all with the magic of his Apple products. Mac à Montréal took on his project.

“These guys are unbelievable” Goldstein recalls, “the passion and knowledge they portray is a little surreal. They pretty much knew what I was after even before I had fully described it to them. The goal was to come home to a relaxing atmosphere of music, comfort and pleasure, an unprecedented movie-theatre experience, a little extra peace of mind and a whole lot of ‘wow’. I wanted access to everything - including my business documents - from anywhere.”

Apple products and the tight integration of hardware and software easily allows for such a project to materialize.

This is what Mac à Montréal told me when we spoke says Goldstein, “our goal is to make your house work for you, not the other way around! Combining our expertise with your imagination, we can offer you a totally customized solution that is tailored to your specific needs. The solution may combine multiple services, such as lighting and climate control, multi-room music, home entertainment, safety and security, and making your entire office business mobile. What's more, you can control it all using your Mac, your iPhone, and your iPad.”

“I was sold pretty much instantly” recalls Goldstein. “I took comfort knowing that they would handle everything from beginning to end. Mac à Montréal and their resources, chose and installed the cabling, the walls jacks, the TV mounts, the LED screens, the security cameras, and all my Apple equipment. We even built a server room in the basement that would become the heart of everything powering my home.”

The whole project took about 3 weeks to complete and this was mostly due to other construction factors that delayed the work a little bit.

“The end result is simply jaw-dropping,” says Goldstein. “I mean I knew what I had asked for but to actually see it all put together and working — wow! My Mac Pro server running Mac OS X Server powers the whole house and is the central hub for all my files - both office and personal - all protected by the redundancy of the RAID 5. There are Control-4 terminals all over the house from where I can manage and monitor pretty much every electric device. Everything is accessible from my Macs, my iPhones, and my iPads — from anywhere around the world and communication is all 100% encrypted and secure.”
